September ’18 Goals

September kinda feels like the beginning of a new year, doesn’t it? It’s still pretty hot over here, but there’s a definite cooling down going on and it really does feel like we’re transitioning into ‘winter’. With the new season comes some fresh starts and a chance to reinvent ourselves. I have a few things that I’d like to do this month and I thought that I’d share them with you guys.



Sort out my balcony.
I’ve been feeling so inspired to fix up my balcony. Yes, we’ve lived in this house for almost a decade and I have barely spent any time out on my balcony. I think my recent interest (some might call it an obsession and they might be right) in meditation and plants has me more interested in spending as much time outdoors as I can. Now that the weather is (hopefully kind of?) starting to cool down, I’ve decided to redo my balcony and turn it into a beautiful outdoor sacred space where I can meditate, read, drink tea, or just hang out. I’m obsessed with the balcony here by Rabobsen, it’s so cute!

Make it up to a 15km Bike Ride
I love riding my bike, but I haven’t really been able to do any outdoor cycling since my ankle surgery. Earlier this year, I set a goal to complete a sprint triathlon, and I’d really like to do it before the end of the year, or at least before my 35th birthday next March. Training officially starts once I get the go ahead from my doctor this month, and my first goal is to finish a 15km bike ride. I can’t wait! I really miss cycling.

Eat healthier.
I recently weighed myself and was a little shocked at how much weight I’ve put on this year. Not because I don’t like the way that I look, but because I do have a couple of health conditions that can be worsened by weight gain. I’m on medication to control them, but ideally I would like to be able to come off of them, and I don’t want to have to increase the dosage. So I’ve downloaded My Fitness Pal, a food and exercise tracking app and will be tracking the food I eat. You can keep an eye on what I’m eating and my workouts on my fitness Instagram account, Aseyagetsfit.

Make more stuff.
If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I’ve really gotten into DIYing stuff over the summer. I have a really bad Netflix habit (the kind where I lose days and days, lol) so making things is a great way to keep myself occupied without falling into a binge-hole. I have a couple of small projects that I want to work on, but I’m kind of obsessed with this macrame bag from A Pair and a Spare, so I’m gonna try to make that first.

Finish reading Women Who Run With The Wolves.
I have been reading this book all year. I started it and keep reading little bits of it and then forgetting to read it. It’s not that the book isn’t interesting, it really is, and it’s right up my alley. In fact, Maya Angelou herself said “I am grateful to Women Who Run With the Wolves and to Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés. The work shows the reader how glorious it is to be daring, to be caring, and to be women. Everyone who can read should read this book.”, so you know it’s a good one. I just haven’t been able to make time to read it. But I’ve realized that if I want to finish something, I need to prioritize time to do it, so I’m going to carve out time every night to read this book and hopefully finish it before the end of September.

Get out of bed earlier.
Over the past few days, I’ve been waking up earlier than I usually do and it makes me feel much more productive throughout the day. I really want to keep this up, if I wake up (and get out of bed – not just wake up and scroll Instagram for an hour) it just makes my whole day go better. Waking up a couple of hours earlier means that I can wake up, have an actual breakfast, plan my day, work on whatever I need to do and even take my time getting ready before I have to head out. So far, I’m loving it and I would really like to keep it going throughout the month, and possibly make it a new habit.
